GIRL TALK
Girl Talk is a six-week after-school skills group series for girls in 5th and 6th grades at Flint Hill. Through the use of art, play, and nature, participants will practice skills to help them navigate complex pre-teen social issues and to improve self-esteem.

Curriculum Includes:
Social Skills Development

Making and keeping friends and the changing dynamics of friendship through adolescent development

Identifying the traits that make up positive, healthy relationships

Understanding social boundaries

Accepting social rules or expectations and their consequences

Understanding social expectations in situations and settings common during adolescence
Self Esteem and Compassion for Self and Others

Improving self-image and self-esteem

Perspective-taking, empathy for others and helping behaviors

Accepting differences within self and within peers

Managing negative emotions, depression or anxiety related to challenges with socialization
Effective Communication and Conflict Resolution

Increasing effective and assertive communication

Managing peer pressure and recognizing manipulation or malicious intent from peers

Recognizing and managing gossip, rumors or bullying

Developing and practicing strategies to help resolve conflicts within friendships

Understanding internet safety and the appropriate use of social media

Maximum size of the group is ten members.

Wednesdays, 3pm-4pm Group sessions begin on October 9th Located on Lower School Campus, Flint Hill
Facilitators: Cate Riihimaki, LPC and Charlotte Mathews, Resident-in-Counseling, NCC
Cost: $125.00 per 60-minute group for six (6) group meetings (includes intake meeting and group material costs)
Co-faciltators will provide participating families with documentation (Superbill) for insurance purposes.
